We went everywhere!

Beth took me on a walking tour of Sofia today. We saw everything! We went to the women's market, farmers market, saw all the different cathedral churches-both Bulgarian and Russian orthodox, and some different temples and mosques. There was a baptism of about a 3 year old girl going on in one of the churches which was fascinating to see the traditions that go along with that. She was stripped down naked and had Holy water put on her head, both hands, and her feet. Supposedly this is to symbolize where Jesus had the thorns and nails in his body. Then the girl had water poured over her. It was neat to see. Then there was a funeral going on in another one of the temples, so we couldn't go in there, but you could smell the strong incense from outside.

We also got to see lots of actual ancient Roman ruins. That was really neat. The city has been doing renovations and have uncovered a lot of ruins that they are trying to preserve.
