I'm back at it again...

After a "brief" hiatus, I am back in school and working towards my Master's Degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. I am now more ready than ever to get my degree and get licensed to work with women who have been through sexual trauma, domestic abuse, and/or have been sex trafficked. I know that the need for trauma counselors is high and I plan to specialize in trauma counseling to help fill that need. 1. Every 73 seconds an American is sexually assaulted (every 9 minutes it's a child) 2. 1 out of every 6 American women has been the victim of attempted or completed rape in their lifetime 3. On average, there are 433,648 victims of rape and sexual abuse each year in the US 4. 94% of women who are raped experience symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) 5. 33% of women who are raped contemplate suicide 6. People who have been sexually assaulted are 10 times more likely to use drugs than the general public 7. Out of every 1000 sexual assaults, only about 310 are reported to the police These reasons alone are enough for me to want to hurry up and become a counselor so that I can help these women affected by sexual trauma.
